We're not just mothers! There is a long tradition of mother/daughter involvement in Girl Scouts which has been a meaningful experience for both through the generations. However, to keep Girl Scouting strong in a community it takes ALL adults: men, senior citizens, non-parents, 18-29-year-olds, etc.
There is a volunteer job in Girl Scouts that will match your time commitment, schedule, talents and skills. Many adults are troop leaders, which involves the most training and the largest consistent time requirement. Being a troop leader also has the most rewards because you directly see the girls grow and get the most hugs along the way!
There are other short-term volunteer positions working directly with girls such as event planners, troop cookie chairs, and Juliette advisors. There are also positions working exclusively with adults but the work is vital to the success of the Girl Scout Mission, such as the board of directors, fund development committee, etc.
Volunteers all receive orientation and training necessary for them to succeed in their positions.
Volunteers register as adult Girl Scouts to be in the communication loop for local and national communications and to have activity insurance. There is an application and screening process for volunteers to ensure the safety of the girls and the proper placement of adults. All positions have specific terms so that volunteers can evaluate how they want to continue their association with Girl Scouts.
Volunteers are the strength of the Girl Scout Movement. We recognize our volunteers through a variety of informal and formal recognitions. (see Leader Notebook-Adult Recognitions)
